August

August is usually a sparse month for blooms, but adequate rain kept the garden green this year. The lawn never turned yellow and continued to grow throughout the summer, and it seemed like every shrub and hedge needed lots of cutting back this month.

Precipitation: Approximately 3 inches
Average precipitation: 3.8 inches

  1. I THINK the purple flower is a native version of tradescantia. I have both this and several of the cultivated varieties in my garden-- they are delightful. This blooms later than the cultivars, so it might not be in the family at all. Link to tradescantia cultivars here: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=tradescantia+plants&ei=UTF-8&fr=moz35
